Steve Wretling

Chief Technology and Innovation Officer

Steve Wretling is the Chief Technology and Innovation Officer (CTIO) for Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), a global voice, advisor and thought leader of health transformation through health information and technology.

As the CTIO, Wretling is responsible for the acceleration of health innovation and leads Health 2.0 and Personal Connected Health Alliance, HIMSS Innovation companies. Wretling serves as the champion for amplifying and coordinating the Enterprise thought leadership content and efforts across all platforms. In addition, Wretling also leads the digital and information technology efforts globally for the Enterprise.

With more than two decades of multi-industry technology and executive experience, Wretling brings a unique breadth and depth of expertise and capabilities to improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of health, healthcare and care outcomes.

Before joining HIMSS, Wretling served concurrently as the global chief technology officer for DaVita, Inc. and chief information officer for DaVita Integrated Kidney Care. Wretling delivered key capabilities for DaVita initiatives including a flagship mobile app for chronic patients, a telehealth platform, a health information exchange (HIE) platform, a new electronic medical record system for in-center kidney care, patient care management AI solutions and various physician and clinical team tools.

Prior to his role at Davita, Wretling held many progressive roles at Kaiser Permanente, including delivering groundbreaking capabilities and platforms for Kaiser Permanente consumers, teammates and physicians including their first mobile consumer mobile application, web and multi-channel architecture for KP.org, HIE platform, next generation population care and disease management strategy and platform, and telehealth/telemedicine platform. Wretling was also responsible for clinical informatics, information management, clinical data warehouse, analytics, all clinical interfaces and interoperability, and clinical decision support systems.

Wretling earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Kansas.
